ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR
School of the Madeleine is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year. Interested parents may pick up an application at the school office or download it from the Madeleine website. The Madeleine website is: schoolofthemadeleine.com
For further information, please call the school office at (619) 276-4003.
CALENDAR CHANGE
Friday, March 8, 2013 will now be a minimum day for all children from kindergarten through eighth grades. Our teachers have a wonderful and unexpected opportunity to attend an iPad class that will assist them in preparing student lessons for their individual grade levels. This class will be paid with federal funds and can only be offered on this one day. I am sorry for any inconvenience this calendar change will make for any of our families. However, this is a great opportunity for our teachers and I doubt sincerely that we will be given this chance again!
2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR TUITION SCHEDULE
School of the Madeleine will be changing the tuition and student fees schedule for the 2013-2014 school year. All families will pay student fees for the following academic year in May and start the first tuition payment in July. This new tuition schedule would have the last tuition payment due in April. This will help the school to better know its enrollment numbers and accept new students faster. Many school families now do not inform the school that they are planning to leave until August or even September. Often this leaves the school with no available students on the waiting lists because potential families have enrolled in their second choice of schools. Both student fees and the first month tuition will be non-refundable.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
All students entering grade 7 are required to have a Tdap booster immunization. The proof of this booster must be given to our school office by Tuesday, April 30.
This is a county health regulation (AB 354). No child may start school on the first day of school without the Tdap booster immunization records on file. Thank you for your cooperation!
THANK YOU TO STUDENT SPEAKERS AT PARISHES
I want to thank these students who spoke about our open house at a variety of parishes: Ian Grooms, Julia Miller, Kaylee Stiffler, Casey White, Kyla White, Ivy Yahnke, and Lacey Yahnke. Each of them did a wonderful job and we commend them!
CHRISTIAN LIVING AWARDS
Congratulations to these students who received the Christian Living award. This award was given to two students in kindergarten through eighth grades. These students were presented with their awards on Tuesday of Catholic Schools Week in front of the student body.

Congratulations to our science fair winners from our junior high. We had 19 students chosen to continue on to the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. It is a great honor to compete in this citywide competition and only the best projects go on to that level. The Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair will begin on Wednesday, March 20 at the Balboa Park Activities Center. The asterisk indicates students that will be going on to the screening for the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
Our annual school Grandparents’ Day is on Friday, April 19. Invitations will be sent home in February. This is a great day for us to honor the special people in our lives by inviting grandparents or other significant individuals to our school. Please make sure grandparents save this date!
A Special Thank You
Dear Madeleine Faculty, Parents, Student Council and Students,
I would like to thank you for your very generous support of Jeans Day that was sponsored by the Student Council to provide medical care for orphans through Bridges to Healing. There are orphanages in many parts of the world where children do not receive medical care when they are sick. Bridges to Healing finds sick, disabled and chronically-ill children in orphanages and provides them with the best health care available. We serve children in 7 orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico and in Bolivia. The organization is run by volunteers so every dollar you contributed to Jeans Day went to buy things like medicine for a child who has parasites, an X-Ray for a disabled child who needs surgery, and specialist care for a child with HIV. On behalf of these very special children, I would like to thank the Madeleine community for reaching out to those most in need.
Best regards,
Erin Rickwa
Chief Executive Officer
