FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST EUCHARIST - Children are usually prepared for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the second grade. Their preparation is integrated with their normal second grade religious education class curriculum. Majority of preparation occurs in the classroom but parent involvement is encouraged. Parents meet three times during the year to go over sacramental information they can share with their children. They are given “We Discover God’s Paths” workbook to do with their children at home. Around 90 children from School of the Madeleine and Parish School of Religion will receive First Holy Communion in Family Centered Eucharistic Celebrations on a Saturday morning Mass in April or May, 2009. If you want your child to receive Holy Communion, please call the Religious Ed office at (619)276-1248 M-Th 1-5pm. Older children with no previous religious education are taught in a number of classes grouped by grade level the first year and receive Holy Communion the second year. Children, older than seven, who need all three sacraments of Initiation, participate in the Christian Initiation for Children the second year.
CHILDRENS LITURGY - At the 9:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. Masses each weekend, the children in grades K-4 are invited to a Liturgy of the Word especially designed for children in their age group. The children then return to their parents for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
PRESCHOOL Our program for 3 and 4 yr. olds is during the 9:00am Sunday Mass in the Kindergarten patio across the street. Through stories, songs and crafts, the seeds of Jesus’ love are planted. This Sunday morning experience offers the children a happy and joyful remembrance of their time spent at church. We will register the children after Mass September 21, and began these Preschool Sunday classes September 28. We need one more volunteer to lead the children one Sunday a month. Please call Peggy at (619)276-1248 if you can help or for more info.
